On July 20, 1969, the human race accomplished its single greatest technological achievement of all time when a man first set foot on the moon. We entered a new era, no longer bound by the circles of the earth that had held us so jealously so close to its surface for so long. "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." With those words, on July 20, 1969, United States astronaut Neil A. Armstrong stepped from the lunar landing vehicle "Eagle" onto the surface of the moon. Minutes later he was joined by Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."
