Aristotle, one of Plato’s greatest students, was born at the town of Stagirus on the Chalcidic peninsula of northern Greece in the year 384 BC. His father, Nikomachus, was a court physician and a medical doctor. Aristotle was educated as a member of a royal family. At the age of eighteen he moved to Athens to continue his education in Plato’s Academy. First he was there as a student, after he became a researcher and finally a teacher. He stayed there until Plato’s death in 347 BC. He was a great pupil, Aristotle opposed some of Plato's teachings, and when Plato died, Aristotle was not appointed head of the Academy as he wished and after that he moved from Athens. After leaving Athens, Aristotle spent some time on traveling and studying biology in Asia Minor (Turkey).
