BARAKA

The word “baraka” means blessing in many languages, it also means the “essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds.” This film however, had no spoken words. It contained images and scenes from around the world, people, animals, religion, and the environment. The theme that I noticed throughout the movie was the connection between humans and the environment that surrounds them. It was sometimes frustrating that there was no narration, at times I didn’t know where the scene was taking place or what the ritual meant. But it was amazing how much ground the movie covered, it traveled the world illustrating people’s customs, rituals, and religions. Rabbis at the Wailing Wall, monks, Catholic priests, Muslims worshiping at Mecca, all are represented and it sends a message that while we are all different we are also much the same.
