Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz in 1942, is one of the most famous films ever made. It is a timeless story of love. The film has endured because of the moralizing element that permeates the love triangle, played out by Rick (Humphrey Bogart), Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), and Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid). The character of Rick is the moral voice of the story. This film was made under the Hollywood Production Code, which, although it is looked poorly upon today, helped to make Casablanca into the pure, everlasting, romantic film that it is.
The Hollywood Production Code, was instated in the 1930s and restricted the use on film of certain language, crimes, and sex.
