Recent changes to copyright law have been used to take away your personal “fair use” rights to the media you’ve legally acquired. But there is also a new campaign to protect your rights as a consumer.
Much new legislation is attempting to stamp out digital piracy by restricting technological developments and what we can or cannot do with new technology. Copyright owners have the right to protect their “intellectual property” in this digital age; but it could equally be argued that digital consumers should also have their “fair use” rights protected by law.
Protecting your rights as a digital consumer, digital consumers should have the right to:
Time-shift: Users have the right to “time-shift” material that they have legally acquired. This means you have the right to use a VCR to record a TV show and play it back at a later date.
