1) Curator Marine Musa Delaney defines organic as something that is derived from living things, or composed of matter that is either animal or vegetable. Inorganic refers to something which is composed of matter that is not animal or vegetable, and is usually derived from minerals and other non-living things.
In art, organic elements visually represent curvilinear and bio-morphic forms. Inorganic elements more often represent straight edged, architectonic forms.
2) In Elizabeth Smith Jacobs’ art, she uses organic objects such as bones, feathers, shells, and teeth. Some of the inorganic objects in which she uses include nails, keys, rocks, wood, buttons, and coins.
