On August 6, 1945, Harry Truman, the thirty third president of the United States, authorized the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Early that morning, the Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber, took off from the island of Tinian and headed northwest toward the city of Hiroshima in Japan. At 8:15 a.m. Hiroshima time, the Enola Gay dropped “Little Boy”, and within minutes, 9 out of 10 people within half a mile or less from ground zero were dead, and three days later, Nagasaki fell to a similar fate.
