The Media’s Influence on Teenagers with Eating Disorders
It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder; seven million women and one million men (State.Sc.US). As the media increasingly infiltrates the teenage population in America the cases of eating disorders among girls and boys is growing each ear due to the negative influences of the media. The influence of the media on the increase of eating disorders cannot be ignored. Children at an early age start being bombarded with images and messages that reinforce the idea that the only way to be happy and successful is to be thin. These messages are making an impact on groups of children that get younger and younger each year.
