Literature Review
Depression and mental health are some of the main issues affecting college students today. Mental health continues to be one of the growing factors affecting students of higher education, as its also a dynamic that causes mental disorder for young adults. Evidence has shown that this may lead to suicide and rape. Some of these students also deal with sexual identification, relationship problems and other behaviors that are dangerous to their health (Eisenberg, 2007). This affects the academic success of these students in more ways than one. Some are unable to choose career choices that suit their life style. Speech anxiety can lead to presentations, and trouble studying (De’melo, 2005). According to (Eisenberg, 2007)†Mental health among university students represents an important and growing public heath concern for which the epidemiological date are needed†(Eisenberg, 534, 2007).
These make things more difficult for students, as they find it difficult to get along with people and make things work in their respective homes (Haas, 2008). At the beginning and the end of each semester, most students usually undergo a variety of stress that includes preparation for final exams and projects, moving from dorm to dorm and choosing a routine (Gollust, 2008). Stress including headaches, depression, and poor academic performance interpersonal uncertainty as well as career failure are contribution (Lenier 2001). It is also one of the many things that cause drop out rate to be high percentage. When most student are going through depression and mental health issues, they find it difficult to focus and concentrate in their classes. And for most, procrastination gets the best of them when it’s time to study for an exam.
