2001: A Space Odyssey

The film, 2001, was scientifically accurate for the most part.   There were, however, some inaccuracies, which probably made the film more interesting at times.   The same is true for 2010, but 2010 appears to have more inaccuracies than accuracies.
For the most part, Kubrick paid great attention to the way that Sunlight would reflect off of the Earth, Moon, and other objects in space.   In fact, there is a scene where the Earth looks similar to a crescent Moon.   This occurs because of the way that it is facing the Sun.
Kubrick is one of the few filmmakers that recognized the fact that there is no sound in space.   All of the scenes in 2001 that take place outside of the spacecrafts have no sound.   George Lucas, the writer and director of Star Wars, and other filmmakers commonly suggest that there is sound in space.   For example, in Star Wars: Episode II, an explosion takes place in space and lets out a loud noise.   This would not occur because there is no medium, such as air, for the sound to travel through.
Kubrick pays attention to the time it takes for radio waves to travel through space.   During an interview with HAL, the Discoverys onboard computer, the news announcer on Earth mentions that there was a seven second delay in the interview that has been removed.   This delay occurs because radio waves travel at the speed of light, which travels at approximately 300,000 kilometers per second.   This suggests that the Discovery is approximately 1.3 million miles away from the Earth.
An inaccuracy occurs in the opening scene of 2001, when the Earth is shown between the Sun and Moon.   The Moon appears to be completely dark.   It should, however, be red because a lunar eclipse would occur in this situation.   Lunar eclipses occur because Sunlight bends in the Earths atmosphere.   The blue light is filtered out in the atmosphere and only red light remains.
There are multiple inaccuracies related to gravity and free fall.   In the film, some people float in space...
