Four Loko

      Four loko should not change their product due to the fact that people abused it. Manufacturers are responsible for providing products to the public. The products are used by consumers in whatever way they choose. If they use the products in such a way that is unintended by the manufacturer then the manufacturer is not responsible for that behavior. The recent ban on Four Loko should be reversed because the manufacturer should not be punished for the misuse of its product by consumers.
Staying one step ahead of the FDA, Phusion Products announced in November of 2010 that they would remove caffeine, guarana, and the amino acid taurine from its product. The result would be a less wired drunk ness. Phusion Products was never told to do so under law, but was recommended by the FDA to change their product. Surely removing the caffeine and other main ingredients in the caffeinated energy drink will slightly down side their product.
      The effects when alcohol and caffeine are mixed double rather than just consuming alcohol. Four loko is a 12% alcohol drink with enough caffeine in it that is equal to 3 cups of coffee. So generally in one can you consume the equalivent of three 12oz beers and 3 cups of coffee. The problem facing four loko is that college students are drinking 2 to 3 cans a night and having trips to the emergency room. They aren’t as educated about the dangers of drinking caffeinated alcoholic beverages. Maybe the universities should better educate their students about the dangers of mixing caffeine and alcohol.
      Four Loko has been a very popular drink among college students. With being in college there comes cost effecting shopping, the low cost of four loko makes it a popular choice among students.
