A Pirate’s Life for Me
I was sixteen when I met him, the pirate.
It all started when my friend and I became black jack dealers on a cruise ship. We had to lie about our age to get on, so everyone thought that we were twenty one. I was just about finished my shift, when he came up to me. He was an odd fellow, a weird hat, weird clothing, and a bottle of rum in his hand. He sat down and pulled out a handful of gold.
“Hello sir, are you ready to play?†I asked him,
“You bet!†he replied drunkenly
I dealt. He played three rounds, and won every one of them. I couldn’t believe it. I’d been on the boat for two weeks already and hadn’t seen anyone win he him. He told me he was done playing and then got up and left. It was the end of my shift. So I followed him. I don’t usually follow the passengers, but this man was very odd, and very out of place.
I saw him head to the bow of the boat and then he disappeared. Where did he go? I went over to the bow and looked down. There, I saw a small boat, and the man was in it. He was leaving. I looked out onto the water and I saw a ship. It was an old, rickety looking boat. Not the kind of boat that you would see out on the Caribbean. I went back to the casino.
The next night near the end of my shift, he was back, bottle of rum and all. He played another three games, won them all, and then left. I was curious to see where he went, so I followed him again. Just as the night before, he went to the bow of the boat and then disappeared. This time I was ready though and grabbed one of the life rafts and went out after him.
He stopped paddling, when he got to the old, rickety ship I’d seen the night before. I slowed down until I’d seen that he’d gotten onto the ship. I started paddling again and when I got there, tied my boat to his, and then climbed a rope that was attached to the main deck.
