THE SPLITTING RAINDROP/CHAP I/ Nenad's Private Life.
The sky outside was unleashing its heavy burden. To a boy of fourteen inside his cluster house, it seemed the heavens were punishing him in particular. His especial tribulation was that the next day , he would be compelled to return to school. Frantic preparations were in place- for both him and his sister, two years his junior. And as is the way with parents, they were undertaking all these preparations for their offspring without the knowledge-or consent-of the latter. (Just that morning, their father had come back from Thailand and brought back a pair of trainers for each of them.)
Perhaps the boy was bringing this misery on himself? Because it didn't help much that he was standing by the window, watching his garden getting waterlogged. And certainly it didn't help that his bedroom had a splendid view of the drainage chute on the left side of the house through which water gushed and made all those unpleasant sounds that water made-gurgling, bubbling, fizzing and plopping to name but a few.
“Nenad, I've packed your bag for you, dear!â€
A deep inward sigh as Nenad (for that was his name)contemplated the consequences that would ensue if his classmates at school were to know about this.
“Oho! What have we here? Did Mummy put this here as well?†TK would say.
“What a lovely caring mum you have!†AB might join in.
“How sweeeeeetttttt...†HP would croon.
“ Now let's read his diary... “I
