Abnormal Thoughts in Writing
It has become apparent through centuries of writings that abnormal thoughts and actions are a popular topic to write about. While comparing this common theme across two stories, we will discuss some of the similarities, as well as the differences. The first story we will take a look at is “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O” Conner, and the second example will be “The Cask of Amantillado” by Edgar Allan Poe. Each story has a central character whom acts out on his abnormal thoughts, through abnormal behaviors. In “A Good Man is Hard to Find” the character of discussion is “The Misfit” , while in “The Cask of Amantillado” the character is “Montresor”.

Though these stories are written by totally different people, during different eras, there are similarities in both works. One abnormality that is shared between the two stories is the complete disregard for human life displayed by one or more of the characters.   In “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, The Misfit murders, or orders the murders, of a whole family, including two children and an elderly lady . Both murderers don’t appear to show any remorse for their actions, even though the actions were particularly gruesome.

A second way in which these two stories characters are common, is in their methods of taking the victims out of sight for them to meet their deaths. The Misfit has the family (minus the grandmother) taken out to the woods, where he can not see them,   in order to be killed. He...
