Abortion Should Be Illegal

Abortion needs to be illegal
For years many different people from many different walks of life have had different opinions about abortion. For some abortion is never wrong and for others abortion is never right. Abortion is wrong not only because it goes against what God has said, but also because most women are so rushed into and unsure about their decision they regret it later in life. An abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth which results in the death of an embryo or a fetus. With an issue like abortion, there is difficulty in determining if it is right or wrong. There are many sides and arguments to this topic. So with this said, is it wrong for a woman to get an abortion? Murder in the United States is illegal. You cannot go out and kill someone just because you fill like it. Why does this not apply with abortion as well? In polls of why women have abortions, 93% said that it was due to social reasons (stallworthy 1971). That means that the child would have been an inconvenience or would make it hard for them to work and be sociable. They are saying that they have to kill a child because it would make it hard for them to go out and be social with friends or make it hard to go to work or school. This is exactly like murder. They do not want the child around, so they kill it. Why are people not punished and why is this not illegal? The Fourteenth amendment states that no state shall take away any person’s life, freedom, or possessions (loc.gov). This amendment should apply to abortion as well. I am shocked that it does not apply to it. The U.S. Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade in 1973 has made abortion legal in America. The ruling was that babies are not legal “persons”; from that point on they have no rights or protection under our constitution. If this is true for the justice system then why is it when a person kills a pregnant woman he or she is convicted on two counts of murder.
