Achilles
Achilles overwhelms himself by having to always be in front. Achilles wishes for
people around him to respect him. Achilles mainly does this to make himself feel like he is
on top of the social ladder. Achilles had plenty of time between battles to bury Patroklus.
All throughout the poem Homer tells of truces between battles. Achilles rages when he
doesn't get his way. It seems that he feels insecure when he in not in the lead. When
Achilles sent Patroklus to fight in his place, he was angry, he couldn't be in control.
Achilles shouted to Patroklus not to try to do any fancy fighting, just to lead the men and
get out of the battle. This also proves Achilles can't stand to not be in the spotlight.
Achilles feels insecure when this happens. The love Achilles showed Priam was not real.
Priam was a tool that Achilles used so he could hear someone beg to him. It is not
possible for a man to love antother, when a earlier he tried to kill him. Remember that
Achilles had been dragging around a dead man's body for days. There is a treasure that
only Achilles has , he is almost invincible in battles. Achilles doesn't have to worry as
much about his safety in battles. The Achaians looked up to him for this and he made sure
the theyarmy missed him while he is gone. Striving for attention is something Achilles
always does. Homer describes Achilles as impatient. All throughout the poem Achilles
wants, wants and wants. He has to have everything done on his command. Achilles
doesn't want to take a chance of his Achaian warriors forgetting how powerful he is for
one second. The character of Achilles has many faults but overwelming himself with
always being a leader is just as weak as his heel.
