Adopt a Disease Paper
There are an estimated 250 million people worldwide that are affected by some form of hepatitis and around 400 million whom are a chronic carrier of hepatitis B. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, inflammation is defined as an irritation or swelling of the liver cells. There are several different forms of hepatitis which includes viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, fatty liver hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis and toxin induced hepatitis, each form is different and is known by their alphabetical names. This paper will discuss the history of hepatitis, etiology, affected population, and possible treatment if any.
History of Liver Hepatitis
Hepatitis was believed to exist in some form some many years ago, Hepatitis was known as the disease that existed that affected the liver causing the skin to have a yellowish look. It was not until 1963 when a major breakthrough that had indentified a form of hepatitis which was serum hepatitis and its cause which is known as hepatitis B virus (HBV). Almost 10 years later the cause of infectious hepatitis was found and named Hepatitis A virus (HAV), however; scientists knew there was more forms of hepatitis virus, but it was not until 1989 that hepatitis C virus (HCV) was isolate. Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) was known about in the mid-1970s, but was not understood to exist in the presence of Hepatitis B until the late 1980s-1990. In the 1990s hepatitis E virus (HEV) and 1995 hepatitis G virus (HGV) were identified. However; hepatitis f virus and transfusion transmission virus (TTV) are known to exist, but has not been proven yet. There are about eight different types of hepatitis but only three forms of hepatitis is most commonly known about which are Hepatitis A, B and C.
