Well there I was. I was driving along in my Hilux. Off-roading. Over this mountain. Through a valley. In the middle of a cyclone. Which caused a flood. And triggered a landslide. Before I finally get to this volcano that’s perched right on the edge of a cliff. And I know what you’re thinking. But hang on to your steak and cheese mate cause this is where it got interesting. From out of nowhere the biggest wild boar I’ve ever seen in my life. Flames pouring out of his nostrils. He had full body armour on. Two rocket launchers on his back like commando. He was riding this massive motorcycle and getting himself airbrushed on the fuel tank. With this crazy looking chimpanzee. And that little fruitcake. He looked my right in the eye. And he demanded. An ice cream. So here I am.
Now I don’t know about you, but if I had the money and I didn’t live in Manurewa, I’d buy that Hilux. Although it seems like advertising is the key to increasing product sales, half of all ongoing advertisement campaigns are ineffective, and for the advertisements that are effective, they only increase sales by around 1-2%. This is because most of us don’t actually pay attention to advertisements. According to Newsweek Media Magazine, 48% of television viewers leave the room when commercials come on. Of the viewers who remain, 82% are “inattentive”. Meaning that only 9.4% of television viewers actually pay attention to advertisements. With 238,000,000 people watching television each day, only 22,372,000 viewers are watching the advertisements. Although it might seem like a large number, its only 0.3% of the worlds population.
So how do you increase products sales if advertising isn’t the answer? The trick is to get your customer to trust you. In a recent study, 73% of people buy from services they know and like whereas only 27% but based on price. To gain customer trust you need two things: a better product, and better experience.
