Afghanistan from a young sholars viewpoint

In the fall of 2001 American Military forces went into action Over the Hindu Kush Mountains.   Signaling the beginning of the pickle the United States is into today.   Thus revealed a history to Americans that is nearly as old as time itself. This History shows that occupying Afghanistan is an almost impossible feat as the Russians, the British, and Alexander the Great can all attest.
With the Explosion of the first munitions that touched this ancient soil came with it a learning curve and realization of the history of the lands of Afghanistan. From the Empires of the Ancient World, to that moment in time a history that spans as far as recorded history allows. One of the first empires to conquer the area of Afghanistan was Alexander the Great and his conquest of the known ancient world. During these times little was known about Afghanistan, and when one marches into the unknown territory little is also known about the outcome. “But what he (Alexander) was not able to inform the troops was that he was leading them into what for the Greeks were unknown reaches of the world and terrain more forbidding that had come before – an area we now call Afghanistan.”   Even with the Great victories of Alexander he still withdrew simply because he had conquered all of what the Greek geographers thought was the entire known world. Even with his great victories there is still no mention about having any influence on the people or the civilization. Eventually he could not hold and occupy this area, and near the end of his occupation Tanner says “By then the odds were gradually catching up with him. The vitality that had propelled him and his army to the overwhelming conquest of Persia had been sapped by their struggles against man and nature in the shadows of the Hindu Kush.”   Alexander the great could not hold this land in ancient times and he is viewed by many as one of the most successful commanders of all time.
