ABSTRACT: An original research tool based on the Healthy People 2010 leading health indicators and influenced by the findings of the Centers for Disease Control United States 2005 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance was utilized to survey an aggregate consisting of youth group participants at St Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocala, FL. Study survey findings were analyzed and the community health initiatives of safety and hand hygiene were presented to the full youth group meeting in an interactive lecture format on March 21, 2007. The research process was then evaluated for process improvement.
Introduction
The research team surveyed the St. Paul's United Methodist Church youth group members utilizing an original research tool based on healthy people 2010 objectives and influenced by the findings of the Centers for Disease Control Youth Behavioral Risk Surveillance Study. Letters of introduction about the research project and accompanying parental consent forms were mailed approximately 60 households of students that had participated in St Paul’s youth ministry services in the past. On the night of the survey data collection, eight students arrived with signed consent forms from parents. All eight of these children participate in the survey, and many more wanted to do so, but a lack of a signed consent form was strict exclusionary criteria for participation. The survey itself was conducted in a regular youth group meeting on Wednesday evening February 28, 2007 as students were eating a meal in the youth group hall.
Data Analysis
