Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho started a slasher film revolution. It’s a classic movie that broke all boundaries, challenged laws and chocked critics. This movie is a psychological thriller, designed to keep heartbeats racing, keep people tense on the edge of their seats, make hair rise up, all tension building up to a climax, waiting to be released. The tension usually arises when the character/s is placed in a dangerous, frightening situation or mystery. Hitchcock directed more than 50 films in a career spanning 6 decades, from the silent film era, through the invention of talkies, tot eh colour era. Psycho is Hitchcock’s most famous movie. Psycho follows the misadventure of Marion Crane. One Friday Marion is trusted to bank $40,000 by her employer. Seeing the opportunity to take the money and start a new life, Marion leaves town, on her journey she has the misfortune of calling into the Bates Motel where she meets Norman Bates, and meets a fateful end. The movie is a classic because of Hitchcock expert use of codes. The way he manipulates the representations of his characters. It’s also a classic for its enormous input at the young audience.  



As both characters walk into the parlor, the audience see’s sharp objects and stuffed birds everywhere, the music becomes very tense and eery as if a murder is about to happen, the music then completely drops off as they begin conversation, Hitchcock begins to toy with people.
