Alive
Alive by Piers Paul Read is a good book in my opinion, it told the stories of the real rugby players effectively.
This story takes place over a few months, from the time that the school and rugby team was established (1965), to when they are rescued and have a press conference 21 December 1972. There are no real main characters in the story as it is about the group, rugby team of players, families and friends.
The main story line ids a team of rugby players crashing in the middle of the Andes which are huge range of mountains to the east of Chile. Their story of how they survived for 70 days in the Andes is extreme and shows how people will fight for their lives. “We have to keep going, god wants us to liveâ€. This shows how they are Christians and their belief in god will help them survive
The Character Show their personalities and ‘character’ through their strengths and weakness’s. “I cant eat his flesh, it’s wrong “, said Cannessa, “God gave us this food to help us survive†replied Diaz. That showed Cannessa’s weakness of not eating flesh, he had to overcome it to survive. Diaz told him that god had sacrificed their companions so the rest of them could live.
One of the main themes in this story is the meaning of people’s lives. This relates to the story as the people who died and get eaten by the people who are trying to live. The physical setting is the huge Alps of the Andes in the snow and also the aeroplane. The Social setting is the Christian rugby team.
In conclusion, Alive is a great read and really expresses emotions and actions of the fatal crash and the survivors of it.
