Part one

One quote from this novel that really ‘speaks’ to me, is the following: “The man looked uncomfortable. ‘Rubbish boy,’ he said, ‘then you’d have to go twice! my wife was only thinking you might drop the money in the dark...’ As David took the note he was offered, he looked the man straight in the face: ‘Will you look after my bundle while i go?, that way I can carry the can better. . .’ Both the man and the woman went red in the face, and David set off without waiting for an answer. They where ashamed of themselves, and that was all David had wanted. This passage speaks to me, because I know what its like to be misconceived by someone. And after this couple realizes what good of a person David really is, they are ashamed of themselves for even doubting him.

Part two

Carried on from “If his happiest dreams came true, he could go on living: if not, this was the end.

David, unsure what language to speak decided upon French because of Johnass. He stumbled up the front steps and knocked on the door. thump....thump......thump..... “May I help you?” a quiet voice said from around the corner from the house. Realizing that this person wouldn't understand French, David in his best voice said. “My name is David, and i’m looking for someone named Hjorth.” The thin lanky body smiled then, stood up and wiped the dirt off her pants and said “My name is Hjorth Fengel, why dont you come in for lunch and we will talk.” David hesitantly helped her put away her tools and continued inside her manor.

David, sitting at the table while she prepared sandwiches, wondered what he say when she returned. How would he tell her that he was her son, and have come to live with her once again.? How could he just suddenly appear and act like everything was normal? Would she even want him? “Im not a very good cook, but this will do” Hjorth said handing David a sandwich. “Now, what brings you to my home?” she said. Put on the spot...
