Movie Analysis Paper: “American Violet”

Inspired by the events of the controversial elections of 2000, American Violets tells the story of an African American   mother of four kids struggling to makes ends meet.   The atmosphere of the story is based in a small town in Texas that is predominantly black and low income individuals.   The storyline tells the story of the compelling events of a 24 year old mother who is wrongfully accused and arrested of selling drugs during a drug raid in the community she lives in.   Faced with the thought of serving time in a women’s prison for a crime she didn’t commit, she decides to fight the justice system of Texas.  
Dee Roberts has never been arrested for drugs or any other crime for that matter, but the raid is performed by the request of an overzealous and racist local district attorney who has gain a reputation by his peers as having the power to rid the neighborhoods of people, by finding ways to accuse them of crimes.
Based on the reports of a true story by countless documents and recordings from the ACLU, Dee Roberts is chosen amongst the sea of other falsely accused individuals to be one of the cases that the ACLU decides to take.   Dee decides instead of consenting to charges that she didn’t commit she follows through with filing a discrimination case and with the help of others accused and betrayed by the district attorney; Dee is exonerated and compensated for her incarceration.   This victory only is in the favor of her because the acts of the DA continue as he in re- elected into office.
The basis of the story was to show how one group of people could be consider the minority over the majority.   Minority group simply implies the recipient of lesser power than the other group.   This movie was a clear example of how not being the majority could lead to incriminating circumstances.   In this...
