ELA-51 Analytical essay

This realistic type book takes place in Green Lake, Texas. The Narrator is of a third person point of view. The main characters are Stanley Yelnats IV and Zero (Hector Zeroni). The major conflict is that Stanley must fight against the harsh environment and people at Camp Green Lake in order to declare his independence and finally free himself and his family from the curse that has been on them. Throughout the novel many themes come up like; the meaning of friendship, history in our lives daily, and strength to the end. Through out the novel it is shown that a true friend will always help you in your time of need.

Stanley IV starts off as being very unlucky. He gets picked on at school then later gets sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he did not do. At Camp Green Lake he digs holes everyday. As the days go on he conjugates with the other boys around him but there is one in particular that as the days increase he seems to become friendlier with, and that person would be Zero. Stanley starts to teach Zero how to read and Zero digs half of his hole each day. When that went on for a few days the other boys started to make comments about it, “the other boys didn’t like to see Stanley sitting around while they were working. On Zig-Zag’s birthday there was another thing going between how Stanley and Zero digging. They got to the extreme and Zero started to protect Stanley by hurting Zig-Zag. In the end Zero knocks over Mr. Pandanski and runs away.

A few days later Stanley feels that he should go and try to find Zero then he debates about it in his mind for a long time. When the water truck comes that same day he jumps into the front seat while Mr. Sir is not looking and drives away by the help of twitch. But in the end he drives the water truck into a hole and runs away like Zero. After a few hours of traveling he stops and thinks about going back to Camp Green Lake. After that he keeps going and eventually...
