Analyze barriers that may exist in group communications
Communication acts as a control in motivating people that are doing a good job just by saying “Thank Youâ€, or it motivates them to do a better job, when the work is lacking and information for decision making (Communication in Small Groups p. 368-369). Communication can also provide a release of emotional expression for feelings, which is difficult when communicating through emails and threads. This can create a barrier within the group as what is being written could be taken in the wrong way. No one can see your face or body language when you are writing. A way to get around this would be to re-read what was written to determine that it is taken the way it was intended.
One of the barriers that may exist in group communications is the difference in time zones including the difference in times of anyone that may be overseas. One way that may work around the various time differences is trying to schedule a meeting fir the week-end, which could be more conducive for everyone’s work schedules.
Work schedules can also be a contributing factor in creating communication barriers. Groups that are in the same area often have scheduling problems, as when the group is scattered all across the country as well as international. Scheduling becomes a real problem. Group member’s schedules can range from graveyard shifts to fourteen hour shifts. Splitting the times and the group can help for the ones that work late can meet late, and the ones that work early can meet to discuss what is needed. Scheduling another time that is convenient for both groups to review what the individual groups determined helps in communicating with the entire group.
The lack of having technological skills can be a barrier for group communications. Being able to have some sort of training or manuals or classes can help the group members overcome the barrier of technological insufficiency. This type of training tools also helps to build...
