Andy Warho:
Introduction:
-Andy Warhol, also known as Andrew Warhola, was an American painter, illustrator, printer, record
producer, avant-garde filmmaker and author during the movement known as Pop Art. He also was well
known in distinguished social circles, wealthy patrons and intellectuals who found Andy's work both
perplexing and different in a positive manner.
Personal Point of View:
-Before starting this project, I was very familiar with Andy Warhol. I knew he did many interesting
pieces of work, of which a couple I myself had seen in an art museum while on vacation. I knew he
also was record producer of a 1960's alternative band I listened to called The Velvet Underground, but
past that it was all the knowledge and information I had on him. Also, I tend to be a pioneer when it
comes to projects like this, so I chose an artist of my own picking that was not on the standard list, and
proceeded forward.
Early Life:
-Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 to the parents of Ondrej and Julia Warhola. He was the
fourth of their children, and had two older brothers, Jan and Pavol. His parents were immigrants from
northern Slovakia, and were hard laborers seeking for a better life. His father emigrated in 1914, and
his mother followed in 1921, after his grandparents had died. His father was a coal miner, and
subsequently, died in an accident when Andy was only 13 years old. Andrew also suffered severe
medical problems in his youth. In the third grade, Warhol became stricken with chorea, a neurological
disease that procures involuntary movements of the limbs and extremities. It was a complication from
scarlet fever, giving skin pigmentation blotchiness to the one suffering from it. Because of his complex
list of health issues, this period of life would permanently mark Warhol as a hypochondriac in his
