A career I would be interested in is an announcer; I would want to be a disc jockey. This will have the overview of the job, training, skills needed, wages, and advancement opportunities.
Announcer’s main job is to inform and entertain people on the radio, TV, or at live events. Radio announcers or disc jockeys select music to be played and report on news and weather. Disc Jockeys interview various people and report on local events. Most DJs make up the show as it goes on; many have partners so they can talk about the material. Some DJs have talk shows were listeners call in and weigh in on the topics. TV announcers have three different types of shows the work with. Some host talk shows. Talk show host have guest or sometimes talk about news, politics and sports. The other types are for entertainment and then there's game show host. Radio announcers when not on air usually operate the control board or keep a record of the songs and commercials played. Announcers also participate in community events. It is a very fun job to do.
This career requires some training. You need a high school diploma or GED. Training beyond high school is required; you need to have a good speaking voice. Formal training isn’t required but it helps if you have degree in broadcast journalism. Training alone won’t get you this job, the most essential thing is talent. Working at a college radio station will help you find a place in this field. You also need various skills.
Here are some of the skills needed. You have to express your ideas clearly, listen to others, read and understand scripts and research material. Understand new info by studying, analyze ideas and use logic to examine them.
