Anxiety and depression, a disorder which affects your mental stability, is caused by an imbalance of a chemical in your brain called serotonin. It can be corrected or eased with different types of therapy and can be combined with medication. This disorder can make it hard to function, it can change your train of thoughts in many different ways, and it can affect your relationships with others. All of the children in the novel Lord of the Flies exhibits some amount of anxiety and depression, and is apparent all throughout the book. Anxiety and depression is a disorder that affects your life negatively in all sorts of ways.
Anxiety and depression are usually paired together because they are both related to the serotonin levels in your brain. There are seven different types of anxiety and depression a person can have that are recognized by the American Psychological Association. These seven include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, social phobic disorder, and specific phobia disorder. A person can have one or more of these at one time or another and the severity can fluctuate and depend on their current situation.
Generalized anxiety disorder is excessive, usually irrational worry about normal activities that wouldn’t bother many other people. Panic disorder is when a person has panic attacks that happen usually out of the blue and are caused by irrational fears related to another form of anxiety disorder.
