Argument And Logic

Week 1 CHECKPOINT:   Argument and Logic

“Augustine on God and Time” stipulates that time only exists because our mind tells us it does, and that time only began existing with the creation of Humans.   He believes that without the existence of humans, time itself was non-existent.   His belief is that time started when the human race was created, and that the human mind itself is what created time.
Augustine uses argument and logic throughout this excerpt.   Within the excerpt he provides his argument along with the logic behind it, which, for me, makes what he is saying make sense, therefore persuading me to agree with his argument, and ultimately his belief.   Augustine failed to use any counter arguments to contradict other beliefs and focused only on strengthening his own position.
Augustine’s strengths are the logical aspect of his arguments.   As within the arguments, for the majority of people, there is logic behind them, this gives belief to his ideas and makes it easy to believe and understand.   He gives multiple reasons behind his ideas, and even though there is only one true argument, he strengthens it by providing multiple sub arguments that back-up his belief.   This in itself provides more information and persuasion which makes it easier to believe and understand his position.   His idea that “god is beyond time” is what Christians want to believe, therefore is makes his ideas and beliefs easier to be accepted.
I think his weakness becomes the belief in god.   If there is no belief in god, then his entire position on time only exists because of god.   If the belief is that Humans are a continuous transformation into which we became, then the idea that time didn’t exist before would not be logical.   He believes that time is only a factor in the human mind, and therefore time is only a mental aspect of life.   Without the human mind, there would...
