Charles Preparation Outline
Title: What Autism is and the effects it has on our children of the future
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience what Autism is and the effects it has on our society today and what it could mean for the future.
Thesis: Autism affects 1 in 110 children and 30 years ago it was 1 in 10,000. Today 1.5 million children in the U.S. have autism and about tens of millions worldwide with that being said we are facing an epidemic in our society today.
Introduction

  * Attention Getter: Jim, Sinclair who wrote an Editorial “Don’t Mourn for Us” said. This is what we know, when you tell us of your fondest hopes and dreams for us: that your greatest wish is that one day we will cease to be, and stranger you can love will move in behind our faces
  * Audience motivation: Autism affects 1 in 110 children and 30 years ago it was 1 in 10,000. Today 1.5 million children in the U.S. have autism and about tens of millions worldwide with that being said we are facing an epidemic in our society today.
  * Establish Credibility: But really what is Autism? Well my reading of the editorial “Don’t mourn for us” and other internet sources research I found that Autism is a neurological disorder, which means that it affects the brain. Children with autism brains take in everything at once without filters and in some cases light and sounds come in together for people with autism which can make the world seem like a scary place for them.
  * Preview: Children with autism may have problems with communication, social skills, and reacting to the world around them. Not all behaviors will exist in every child. A diagnosis should be made by the child's doctor or other professional with experience in working with children with autism. In are discussion I will go over three areas that Autism impairs in Children, How Autism is diagnosed, and what treatments are available for people with Autism.
