Studies have estimated that as many as 12 in every 10,000 children have autism or a related condition. During these studies, it has come across that autism is found more common in boys than in girls. Autism, which is also called autistic disorder, appears in early childhood. It usually occurs before age 3. This disorder prevents children and adolescents from interacting normally with other people and affects almost every aspect of their social and psychological development. It is one of the four major development disabilities in the US currently. Autism can be rated ranging from any way from mild to severe cases. Which this makes it difficult to identify a “standard†type of autistic individual. This makes it difficult to know which treatment will be effective for the individual with different range of the disorder. (Stobbe) Whether a child’s autism comes from heredity, from and early gene mutation, from a difficult pregnancy or a traumatic birth, or some combination there of, once the child has autism, the work to be done is based on who the child is and what he knows and doesn’t know, what tools he has for learning and what tools he needs to develop and grow. There are various syndromes of autism that is defined in early childhood. First one would recognize the lack of communication skills. The child would develop language skills slowly or not at all. It would use gestures instead of words to communicate. (Stobbe) Also the child spends a lot of time alone rather than with others, it tends show little interest in making friends. Another syndromes that are common among children with autism is many of them have sensitivities in the areas of sigh, hearing, touch smell, and taste to a greater or lesser degree.
