Walking in the fast lane
It is all because of God’s grace and mercy that I am where I am today. There have been many times during my lifetime where I feel I get what I do not deserve and I do not get what I deserve. My name is Avery Rodriguez and I am the oldest child of three girls. We were all born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where my mom and step-dad try to input as many lifelong teachings as possible. Growing up in Brooklyn with its fast paced city lifestyle where everything is in constant movement is quite opposite of Rosenberg, Texas.
Respecting authority will lead me far in life mainly because it is the right thing to do. By doing so, people will start to view me differently and refer to me as a mature young lady. There was an empty feeling inside me after I had officially lost trust from my parents. To avoid that incident occurring again, I have to prove that I am the responsible, honest, trustworthy, and determined child I once was. Transforming from a child to a pre teenager [adolescent] consisted of a behavior change, social change as well as many other changes. Mentally as a twelve year old I felt wedged between a childlike stage and a teenage stage, because I was not quite either. Around this age I began to feel there was no true reason to respect authority because nobody understood me. When I was a freshman at Roy H. Mann Junior High, I disrespected my guidance counselor, which resulted in conduct slips to keep track of my behavioral progress. Even in kindergarten at Brooklyn Highlights Academy, my lack of respect to my teachers along with careless unruly actions led to my expulsion. Now when I look back I laugh because it all seems unreal and over exaggerated.
Taking everything for granted in life only showed me how incapable I was at accepting and handling change. In everything I do, I know that change will follow and the only way to deal with it is to think of it as a...
