Throughout history there have been many examples of very advanced civilizations. Whether that’s in early Europe with the Ancient Romans and their stunning architectural capabilities, to the east with Genghis Khan and his awesome, vast armies or to the west with the ancient Mayans and their unbelievable accurate calendar. But as much as I would LOVE to write an additional two pages for each of them I just wanted to say: The Aztecs were a highly sophisticated civilized with a rich culture that made significant technological, government and societal (religious and culture) achievements.
The Aztecs were a very advanced civilization for their time for many reasons such as their significant technology and how it helped shape their empire. As shown in document 4 the Aztecs have impressive architectural skills and good urban/city structure so much in fact that the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan had about 300,000 people living there (5 times as much as London) and so well organized you could only assume the Aztecs in having a very powerful leader. The Aztecs were capable of sustaining a large population and also could sustain a large economy as said in document 11: “…. Some of the soldiers among us….said that so large of a marketplace and so full of people, and so well regulated and arranged, they had never seen.” This clearly shows how intelligent the Aztecs are, for it is not a simple task to put together such a market as described above. Not only were the Aztecs intelligent when it came to managing city life but they were intelligent in managing rural life as well. According to document 8 the Aztecs were very innovative in an agricultural sense because instead of bringing the water to the crop they brought the crop to the water and made artificial islands (Chinampas) that were very efficient.
