Balablok

The short film called “Balablok” discusses human nature and the result of discrimination. It is human nature to easily accept people who are similar to oneself but are also aware of differences. Also, people tend to feel that their race is more superior and more powerful when they are in a larger group. This claim is supported in the film when the sphere, harassed by two cubes, later feels more powerful when the sphere is joined by others of its kind. The result of this discrimination often appears in the form of violence; war would be that perfect example. The animator using simplified figures allows people to relate to either group and it also provides a number of possibilities for different types of group that are in this world. During the violent actions between the cubes and the spheres, there was an image in the background which seemed like it did not belong; there was a unicorn, spacecraft, and hot air balloon above the commotion. Most of these are non-existing objects which people have created. Furthermore, in the film, these objects become unreachable for the spheres and the cubes since they were preoccupied with fighting the war they have created. As a result they were unable to reach the “possibilities” that were out there. Working together as a group would have brought them closer to the development and improvement of society. In the film, the cubes are very surprised to find someone who has different looking from them. This shows that people cannot accept the fact that different people exist.
