BALANCE OF THE EARTH
In the article “The ethical dilemmas of immortality†(2005), Ker Than mentions about possible consequences of becoming immortal. He talks about unfairness which becoming immortal would bring to the world, for example he says that only a lucky -and wealthy- minority would have the chance to become immortal and so balance between rich and poor would be damaged very badly. But on the other hand he writes that even in our present world, there is not a very good balance between them. Also writer claims that suicide and euthanasia, which are not very acceptable, in the present world, would become acceptable when people became immortal, because one could choose to end his endless and meaningless life. And lastly Than claims that if world become immortal, there would be no more room for the new bourns. But despite of all these things that would shake the world as Ker Than told, balance of the world would not be completely collapsed. Nature would find a way to put all things in their places.
A life which never ends may be very favorable for human at first. People would have endless time to learn from their mistakes, to cherish their lives. But in spite of all these advantages, immortality would cause some bad things too. For example, “time†won’t be that precious anymore because people would have infinite time to spend. Nearby, in the present life every ending is just a beginning. But if our lives don’t end, it would break this circle of life and death. As Ker Than said immortality collapses the justice and balance between people, it will also destroy the inner balance of human. It is believed that all people are brought to life because of a mission. Every person has a reason of being alive and when someone’s mission on earth ends, his life ends too. But when someone is immortal, it means his mission continues forever. A life that lasts forever leads person to dissatisfaction that lasts forever. Life would get worthless. He would...
