Gap Analysis: Global Communications
Global Communications is facing several challenges, due to the changing telecommunications market that it thrives to survive in. The stockholders are grumbling over the reduced returns and thinking that the industry will never be the same again. The lack of stockholders confidence in the telecommunications industry was also hurting Global Communications. Their stock, which was valued or traded at $28 per share, was now worth $11 per share. “There was more than 50 percent depreciation.” (University of Phoenix, 2005, Scenario Two: Global Communications) Furthermore, there was too much competition. “Local, long-distance and international markets were all competing for the same business.” (University of Phoenix, 2005, Scenario Two: Global Communications) Once the cable companies introduced the three in one package (computer, television, and phone services), created more hurdles for the telecommunications industry and Global Communication was no exception here. To add to the problems, the senior leadership did not consult the employees or the Union to reach a decision. The Union had already agreed to decrease in education and health benefits. Now, management is said to trying to go against the contract, layoff employees and outsourcing call centers.
The company will have to develop new strategies in order to bounce back in the industry. One of the strategies that the Global Communications, senior leadership team will be exploiting is to outsource jobs to India and Ireland. However, this decision has led to a number of issues. If this strategy is implemented, a number of employees will lose jobs in the United States. And the few domestic jobs that will be kept will come with a price of a 10% salary cut. Additionally, to compete in with the local telephone and cable companies, Global Communications has created an alliance with a satellite provider to offer video services as well as a satellite version of broadband....
