With technology as a tool for instruction all students could benefit including ones with disabilities as well as the poor and disadvantaged. The research in this paper indicates that with the use of technology standardized test scores improved. Also by utilizing technology instruction can be differentiated to each and every student. Students become self-motivated learners and have the means not only to seek knowledge but also to construct knowledge. Technology also helps motivate students by raising student self-esteem, self-confidence and their general attitude towards learning. Students also could expand their horizons by taking distant learning courses through interactive transmissions expanding the course selection is available through the on-site school. Through the use of authentic instruction student motivation is increased, students will be more challenged, thus more engaged and work more independently I currently do. Students will develop the responsibility for their own work and seek out more demanding projects to demonstrate their depth of knowledge.
Technology in authentic learning could also improve basic skills instruction by becoming a tutor for students that are deficient in basic skills mastery. Students could be assessed, determined in what they are deficient, and the program for remediation could be implemented. Students would also become proficient in the use of technology which will become much more important as time progresses. Almost all jobs and career fields require knowledge in the use of technology.
More complex student assessments could evolve through the use of multimedia technology where students become an active participant in project development and application of knowledge. Portfolios of student achievement could be developed and stored more easily. Assessments could be adjusted to the students level of proficiency, thus assisting in individual student progress.
