Black veil

Charles dickens short story “the black veil” builds up tension by using dark metaphors and symbolism to try and depict a morbid picture, he uses metaphors like “cold sharp rain” to give a picture of darkness and this chilling storm. The writer brings in the character with the strange death movement and style about her. She speaks with a morbid tone of how her husband will be dead in the morning. But she would not let the doctor see him till the morning this made the doctor angry, as he may not be able to save him after that night. The woman we find in the end that the woman was old and her husband was really her son and had been hung and she believed that the may be able to save him, this fact could not have been true as he is not able not able to perform acts of god. Charles dickens explains the weather as being “dismal” and “sharp” this gives you the idea of a really violent storm outside even saying that the doctor had been having all day in this and that he would not wish it on anyone. the doctor then goes on to insist that he see’s the patient tonight
