The book I read was titled Fat Chance and was written by Leslea Newman. The book is really the Diary of a thirteen year old girl, Judi. Judi thinks she is fat and doesn’t feel very comfortable with herself. The other two main characters would probably be her best friend Monica, and a girl who Judi admires, Nancy Pratt.
Fat Chance didn’t have a difficult plot and absolutely no hard vocabulary. Leslea Newman also did a very good job of capturing the spirit of a thirteen year old, the book was certainly life-like. I can relate to some of the feelings Judi had, and I think that is one of the elements that make a good book great.
Judi eventually in the book becomes bulimic, meaning after eating she “binges” up her food. Bulimia has many horrid side effects, which I suppose Judi wasn’t aware of. I think the main cause of Judi becoming bulimic was because of Nancy, I think Nancy had a bad influence on her.
I won’t tell you the rest of the book, but if this seems interesting to you, I recommend you read it. This book is great for people with low vocabulary or has trouble reading, it’s a really easy book to read. I really liked it, I couldn’t put it down when I started reading it.
