Join NowWhen reading Son of the Mob I really felt like the book helped me in understanding things I didn’t know about. In the book Vince Luca’s dad was a Mob King and wanted Vince to join the business when he got older. As I read the book I felt like I was Vince and predicted what I would do next. In Fahrenheit 451 Faber told Montag something very important about books when he said “Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means to have texture. This book has pores. It has features. This book can go under the microscope. You’d find life under the glass, streaming past in infinite profusion” (83). By what Faber said, I think he meant you can picture yourself being in the book, facing the situations that the characters do. That is exactly how I felt with my SSR book. Son of the Mob definitely had quality and I enjoyed reading about the humorous stories of the Mob. In addition it also taught me to stick things out and don’t make a decision until you are sure you know what is right. For example, Vince Luca falls in love with the agent’s daughter who is trying to put Mr. Luca in jail. Mr. Luca doesn’t decide what he is going to do but it all works out in the end when his girlfriend accepts him for who he is. Suspense really kept me into the quality of the book and I haven’t really enjoyed books selected for me to read as much as I did in Son of the Mob.
