Brett Favre, when growing up, was taught never to give up, and that made him into a remarkable NFL quarterback and one of the games best comeback makers (In Their Own Words: Brett Favre). Besides being addicted to painkillers in1996, his career has been spectacular (In Their Own Words...). Other than football, he spends his time helping with charities and special education.
He was born on October 10, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi (Official Brett Favre, 1). He grew up with his brothers, who he was very competitive with (In Their Own Words...). With them he learned that it is unacceptable to raise the white flag, and with this he was molded into the hero he is now, as a football player and a friend (In Their Own Words...). Today he has a wife, Deanna, and two daughters, Brittany and Breleigh (Favre, 249).
He played high school football and went on to the University of Southern Mississippi (Official Brett Favre, 1).USM was the only 1-A school to offer him a scholarship (Official Brett Favre, 1). In 1991, he entered the NFL draft and sat through 32 agonizing picks (In Their Own Words...). Finally, on the 33rd overall draft pick, he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons (In Their Own Words...). He spent his rookie year in 1991 with Atlanta (Official Brett Favre, 1). As a 3rd string QB, he didn’t see much playing time (Favre, 69). He wasn’t feeling wanted by his coach, who called him Mississippi (Favre, 19). Also, as he was yet to be very famous, his name was said wrong in several ways, such as Favor, Fav, Favray, and Far (Favre, 17). He had a very bad first year, in which he was 0-5 in passing, with 2 interceptions and was sacked once (Favre, 69).
In the off season, he received a call from Ron Wolf, the general manager of the Green Bay Packers, saying that they have made a trade for Brett (Favre, 69). The new coach for Green Bay was Mike Holmgren, who had previously worked with Joe Montana and Steve Young, so this was Brett’s perfect opportunity (Favre, 70)....
