* From talking to friends and family, to interacting with coworkers in a business environment, communication plays an important role in life. In the workplace, many jobs depend on communication whether it be in sales, accounting, manufacturing, engineering ,or health care. People must communicate to plan products and services; hire, train, and motivate workers; coordinate manufacturing and delivery; persuade customers to buy; and bill them for the sale (Locker & Kienzler, 2008).
* Business communication plays a large role in my day-to-day activities at work. Working in research and development I am constantly engaging in verbal communication with coworkers, engineers, and my boss, each of which I communicate with in a different manner. When communicating at my job it is important to relay clear and precise information when speaking to engineers and coworkers, as this sometimes determines what course of action to take in the manufacturing process. Likewise, when meeting with my boss it is important that we have good lines of communication so that we can relay different thoughts and ideas without confusion. Being able to communicate well with others can have positive impacts on your career, it can set you up for promotions, and higher starting pay. My day begins with a brief meeting in which my boss and I will discuss what needs to be done for the current day, and the most effective and efficient way to do the work. This allows me to manage my daily work activities because I can get a clear sense of what tasks need to be done and how my boss wants them to be done....
