Can War Be Conducive To The Development Of The Society

War has accompanied peace for at least six thousand years and people managed to tolerate it. Big wars happen every fifty years and it seems that people never learn the lesson from history. Or maybe war is a normal process which is conducive to the development of the society?
First, it’s a well-known fact that the unprecedented demands that war is making upon societies and governments, especially in technological sphere, enormously boost the progress. Moreover, countries tend to use the results and products of this progress long after the war is over. This is the point that all specialists note when talking about the positive outcome of wars.
Second, war can sometimes be perceived as a refreshing force. It may completely change people’s ideas and attitudes, change political regimes and generally make the world look different. It also gives a boost to art in all its manifestations as people attempt to comprehend the new reality. And even destroying things, war makes people think and act in a more constructive and creative manner to restore what they have lost.
Third, in the face of war nations always become united, because in order to overcome difficulties people should come together in spite of different disagreements. Today many agree that the USSR would have lost the Great Patriotic War but for the unity and the spirit of soldiers which helped them fight selflessly in conditions that contemporary Russians can’t even imagine.
However, under no circumstances we should forget that war is always inhumane. Thousands and hundreds of thousands of people die in fighting, sometimes not even seeing the reason to fight. But viable development of the society can never be achieved at the cost of people’s lives.
Finally, war is undoubtedly will be one of those political tools, to which people resort and unfortunately it can’t be abolished. However, I am sure that there is always an option in which direction exactly society can develop, and war is the...
