One thing that Americans struggle most with during this recession going on is whether or not to invest money and if so, how? An investment can be made many different ways and is considered to be the current commitment of money or other resources in the expectation of reaping future benefits. Basically, one who is intending on making an investment is also intending on sacrificing something of value now to expect to benefit from that sacrifice later (Bodie, Kane, & Marcus). In order to better understand the investment process, it is imperative to know all about portfolio construction, asset classes and capital market instruments used in the portfolio, and how to actually compose a portfolio.
Describe the investment banking process including portfolio construction.
The investment banking process has been a crucial element in the development of industry and commerce for hundreds of years, and it was set in place to provide assistance to clients leading to the trading of the stock market, corporate mergers, and takeovers. The investment banking process begins with the analysis of the company’s financial performance and operations and goes into detail about what exactly can be done to have a more successful business (IBR, 2009).
An investor’s portfolio consists of the collection of investment assets. When the portfolio is complete, it will consist of selling existing securities and using the money to buy new securities by investing additional funds to increase the size of the portfolio, or if the investor wants to decrease their portfolio, they will not intend on purchasing more securities.
