During this course I have learned the different types of technical communications used in the business world. I now know the difference in the communications, and what type of audience each communication is written for. For example: when I need to report a problem or concern, or just an up-to-date status report about a team project, I know to send a memo to corporate officials and coworkers within the company. I would send a letter to a client explaining the problem and promising a solution.
Types of Audience
I have learned to pay attention to the type of audience being written to when communicating and their multicultural differences. I have learned how to avoid sexist language and how to deal with diversities if presented within my company.
Formatting
I have learned how to format communication documents and reports. In doing so, I have learned to make good use of white space, use headings and certain fonts while paying attention to page setup in creating the document. In addition to formatting, I have learned the prewrite, write, and rewrite process of creating documents of communication and reports.
User Manuals
I have learned how to create and write a user manual with graphics and step-by-step instructions. While learning how to write in clear and concise language, I also learned how to insert and use photos, graphics and clipart; in addition to charts and tables. I learned how to use color and different fonts to make the manual more appealing to the reader.
Summary
I believe the above criteria included when writing will help me in my future career in assuring that I know how to communicate with employees and clients. Future employers will be able to see that I will be capable of carrying out proper business communication concerning inter-office and outer-office individuals. They will also see I have become knowledgeable in creating charts, graphs, and tables for comparison and status reporting. Having this knowledge makes me more...
