When comparing sociological theory and social process theory, I would say neither theory is based on society as a whole. Instead, I would say they are based on an individual person that is surrounded by different people. Sociological theory bases its theory on people who are less fortunate, such as, people who live in poverty and people who are racial. Social process theory bases its theories on a person who gets their influences from family members, friends and their peers.
Crime Trend
Geography of crime relates to sociological theory because poverty and racial discrimination is all throughout the United States. The people who fit in this certain theory believe the only way to achieve what they feel is due to them is to revert to crime.
Specific Geographical Area
According to the United States Census Bureau (2008), the population in the United States was 304,059,724. The report shows there were 2,938,618 of those people living in Mississippi. Out of those people, 60.6% were white, which is below the national average of 79.8%.   There were 51.5% women, which was above national average of 50.7%. The African Americans that lived in the state were 37.2%, which was higher than the national average of 12.8%, and Hispanic or Latino origin came in at 2.2% with the national average of 15.4%.
When it comes to people being below the poverty level in the state of Mississippi, this state is 7.7% above the national average. The national average for people below poverty is 13.0% and Mississippi is at 20.7%. With the United States being in the shape it is in with no jobs and the poverty level in Mississippi being at 20.7%, a lot of Mississippians have given up hope. As of December, the unemployment rate for Mississippi was at 10.6% which, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2009), that is .6% above national average.
