Challenges at Kwik Trip
All jobs have their strengths and weaknesses. I have worked in many fields from factories, warehouses, over the phone customer service to retail. Working for a gas station can be a very challenging yet very rewarding job. Kwik Trip would have to be one of the most challenging jobs I think I have ever had.
Customers are the main reason I would say that this job is so challenging. You have your regulars that you look forward to seeing everyday, and then there are also the customers that come in that are not so friendly. Younger customers purchasing tobacco and alcohol can get very angry and rude if you will not sell to them due to ID issues. If a customer does not have their ID or has an expired ID, or if it is not in the shape they received it in we have to deny the sale. These customers tend to not be very happy about this and at times will yell and scream and cause a scene in the store. A few have gone as far as threatening to call my manager or the corporate office to file a complaint. Now I know that I have done the right thing but it is still can be a little nerve wracking. Recently I had a customer who was upset with me because he walked up to the register with a girl who looked to be about 15 and tried to buy a case of beer and two packs of cigarettes.   This gentleman looked under 30 so I asked him for his ID and also for the girls ID since they were together and both looked so young. He showed me his ID but she told me that she did not have her ID with her. I then informed them that I would not be able to make the sale, but if she wanted to go get her ID I would be more then willing to hold the objects they wanted to purchase. They both stomped out of the store as I watched to see what vehicle they got into. The reason for doing this is, if anyone from the same car tries to purchase any alcohol or tobacco I would need to refuse the sale once again.
