Changing Perspective

What does perspective mean to you? Ask a hundred people, and it is likely you will get a hundred answers, all worded differently, with similar meaning. This is only possible because, like snowflakes, no two people are exactly alike. Just as people vary, people’s perspectives vary.   To illustrate this point, think back to an argument you may have had with someone who just couldn’t see your point. I have had many experiences like this myself, usually resulting in exasperation and me questioning “Why do you think that way!”   My stressful inquiry is a result of a difference in opinion, probably as a result of my opponent and I having completely different perspectives. Each person has a unique perspective, or point of view that is based on a collection of contributing factors   like personality, personal experience, religious, cultural and social background.  
      Recently, I as I was frequenting one of my favorite celebrity gossip/ blog spots, I came across a video of a mother combing her child’s hair, which can be seen on YouTube at this address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6hxh4vysqo . In the video, a dark-skinned African American mom struggles to comb her mixed race daughter’s hair, while someone else films the ordeal. The child is clearly upset and is fighting the mother to get away. The mother is also apparently at least frustrated and curses at the child. She is brushing the child’s hair vigorously and quickly, and each time the child attempts to run away she brings her back and at one point even straddles the child, continuously brushing the girl’s hair. For the duration of the video the child is either screaming crying or calling for her daddy, at one point she even tells her mother “I hate you!” The person filming and another child seem undisturbed and laugh and play together.
