Who Am I?
Character is not just how someone acts, it’s what they were before which made them what they are today that will affect who they will be tomorrow. My perception of character can be defined as the underlying traits of people, not something that can be observed with the eye. As for instance the presidential election of 2008 portrayed my belief. People judge politicians by what they “think†that person’s character is. However, people do not see a politician’s actual character, because they try to demonstrate the character that they think America wants to see. I believe that people aren’t born with character. Character is obtained through how a person responds to trials and tribulations throughout their life.
True character shines through people when they have nobody watching them. Character is found in a person’s mind. What people really think about issues, not what they say they think, is true character. People might say they are against controversial issues such as abortion, but in reality they might do the same if they are put in the situation. Some think they know their true character until they actually have to go through real life situations and make real life choices. Real life situations and choices is where true character is revealed.
Although true character is revealed in private, character traits can be seen through hard work and determination. I can see character portrayed simply watching high school football. A high school football player doesn’t play with the incentives that college and professional football players play for. High school players play either because they love the game or somebody makes them play. Character can easily be compared between the two types of players. A player that loves the game displays their character through hard work, determination, and motivation. These players don’t have to be disciplined on the field to go 100 percent, 100 percent of the time....
